Veritas Bids Farewell to Beloved Educator Kim Jung

At the end of this school year, Fallon will say goodbye to one of its most esteemed longtime educators. Kim Jung has been teaching for the past 28 years, with 25 of those years dedicated to Classical Christian schools in Fallon. Mrs. Jung spent three years teaching in Lander County at the secondary level and four years homeschooling, but the majority of her educational career has been devoted to teaching kindergarten.

Over the years, Mrs. Jung developed a local reputation for maintaining very high standards, which have inspired excellence in her young students. Each fall, new parents were often surprised to see letter grades on their students’ penmanship and coloring worksheets. Even with something as basic as coloring, the students were taught to be neat, thorough, and to do their very best work to the glory of God. Due to her rigorous expectations, an amazing transformation would take place: the young 5- and 6-year-old students would rise to the challenge. Coloring began to stay within the lines, and letters and numbers became more legible than those of many middle schoolers.

Mrs. Jung has greatly enjoyed her time at Veritas. While she could have chosen to work in public education, Mrs. Jung has a deep appreciation for the Classical Christian model of education. According to Mrs. Jung, “Classical Christian education produces people, not just busy kids.” She plans to relocate to Idaho and spend her retirement years learning fly fishing.

While the Fallon community and Veritas will miss her dearly, the school is fortunate to have Ms. Jessica Kelsey ready to step into her role. Ms. Kelsey has taught kindergarten and second grade for the past nine years, including five years in public education and three years with Fresno Christian Schools. Ms. Kelsey moved to the area this past year and taught second grade at Veritas. She is passionate about teaching young children, recognizing that kindergarten is when students first decide whether they “like school or not.” She brings a fun and energetic demeanor to the classroom and loves the joy and inquisitiveness of young students.

Open enrollment for Veritas begins Monday, March 3rd, at 8:00 a.m. For those interested in learning more about Classical Christian education at Veritas, please visit our website at www.veritasfallon.org.
